The Carpet Tile Count Estimator: Number of Carpet Tiles (custom size) calculator computes the number of carpet tiles and the amount of adhesive needed to cover an area based on the area's dimensions and the size of the tiles specified.

Tile Count (TC): The calculator returns the number of tiles required to cover the area. The calculator also returns:

The Math Science

Carpet tiles are square pieces of carpeting that one can buy in boxes.  They often have a lite adhesive back and are easy to install.  However, when not using self-adhesive tiles, Carpet Adhesive may be required.  The Carpet Adhesive range is the low to high range of adhesive requirements for the area based on manufacturer recommendations that a quart of adhesive covers between 20 and 30 square feet per quart.

This calculator computes the number of carpet tiles needed as follows:

1. computes the total area (length * width)
2. divides the total area by the unit dimension of the tile entered
3. applies the safety margin factor (default 10% to account for partial cuts and broken tiles)
4. rounds up the number of tiles

• 19"x19"
• 19.7" x 19.7" which typically come in boxes of 20
• 24" x 24" which typically come in boxes of 10
• 18” x 24"
• 18” x 36"
