The Math / Science

This is a calculator meant to help in calculating the cost of cigarettes to smokers overs a specific period of time(basically one month).  The formula for the Cost to Smoke is:

CtS = (nC/CPP)*PPP

where:

  • CtS = Cost to Smoke per Day
  • nC = Number of Cigarettes Smoked per Day
  • CPP = Cigarettes per Pack
  • PPP = Price per Pack

In 2024, the average retail price for cigarettes in the United States ranged from $4.38 per pack in Missouri to $10.45 per pack in New York State.  The most common size of a pack of cigarettes is 20, but can range substantially.

Cost of Habits

  • Cost to Drink Beer: This computes the cost to drink beer per day, week, month and year based on the number of beers per day, beers in a pack (e.g., 6 pack) and the cost of a pack.  It also computes the daily and annual calories associated with drinking this much beer.
