Volume of a Cylinder (V): The calculator returns the volume gallons, fluid ounces and liters.  However, these can be automatically converted to many other volume units (e.g. cubic inches) via the pull-down menu. 

NOTE: This calculator was updated on 3/18/2022 to have inches and gallons as the default input and output units respectively.  All other unit options are available via the pull-down menus. 

The Math

The formula for the volume of a cylinder is:

        V = π • r² • h

To get the radius (r), the circumference of a circle equation (c = 2•π•r) is used and solved for r:

        r = c / (2•π)

This combines to give the formula for the volume of a cylinder from the height and circumference:

       V = π • (c / (2•π))² • h
