`U_w = "m" * (1 - rho_o / rho_f )`
`(m)"Mass of object"`
`(rho_o)"Density of object."`
`(rho_f)"Denisty of fluid."`

The Effective (submerged) Unit Weigth calculator computes the unit weight of a submerged object based on the saturated weight of the object and the density of the fluid (e.g. water).

INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:

  • (m) This is the mass of the object
  • (ρo) This is the density of the object
  • (ρf) This is the density of the fluid.

Effective (submerged) Unit Weight (Uw): The calculator return the unit weight in kilograms.  However, this can be automatically converted to compatible units via the pull-down menu.

The Math / Science

The Effective (submerged) unit weight is a civil engineering equation for is basically a submerged unit weight.

The equation for Effective (submerged) unit weight is:

Uw = m • ( 1 - ρof)

where:

  • Uw is the effective submerged unit weight
  • m is the mass of the object
  • ρo is the density of the object
  • ρf is the density of the fluid
