The Fermi Energy for One Dimensional Square Well calculator computes the energy between the highest and lowest occupied single-particle states of non-interacting fermions at absolute zero .

INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:

  • (n) Quantum Number
  • (m) Mass of Fermion
  • (LLength of Square Well

Fermi Energy (En): The results are returns in units of mega-electron volts (MeV).  However, these can be automatically converted to compatible units via the pull-down menu.

The Math / Science

The Fermi Energy equation for one dimensional square well equation is as follows:

En=

where:

  • En = Fermi Energy
  • h = Planck's Constant
  • m = mass of fermion
  • L = Length of Square Well
