The Diagonal of a Floor calculator computes the diagonal of a rectangular floor or deck based on the length and width of the floor area./attachments/984100a1-47cf-11e8-abb7-bc764e2038f2/DeckDiag.png

INSTRUCTIONS:  Choose units and enter the following:

  • (L) The length of the floor area.
  • (W) The width of the floor area

Floor Diagonal (D):  The calculator returns the diagonal in feet.   However, this can be automatically converted into compatible units (e.g. meters) via the pull-down menu.

The Math / Science

The formula for the diagonal of a rectangular deck or floor is:

       D=L2+W2

where:

  • D is the length of the diagonal
  • L is the length of the floor or deck
  • W is the width of the floor or deck

The diagonal is an important number to have when building a deck or floor.  The diagonal will tell you if you have square corners. Compute the diagonal and then adjust the position of your corners until the measured diagonal matches the calculated diagonal.
