The Hartmann number calculator computes the ratio of electromagnetic force to the viscous force.
INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:
- (B) Magnetic Field Intensity
- (L) Characteristic Length
- (σ) Electrical Conductivity
- (μ) Dynamic Viscosity
Hartmann number (Ha): The calculator returns the ratio as a real number.
The Math / Science
The Hartmann Number equation is used to computes the ratio of electromagnetic force to the viscous force. The Hartmann Number equation is as follows:
`Ha=B*Lsqrt(sigma/mu)`,
where:
- Ha = Hartmann Number
- B = magnetic field
- L = characteristic length scale
- σ = electrical conductivity
- μ = dynamic viscosity
This ratio was developed by Julius Hartmann of Denmark.
