The How Much Gold I Can Buy calculator computes the weight of gold one can buy based on the amount of money one has, the current price of gold and a reasonable retailer markup.
INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:
Gold Bullion (GB): The calculator returns the amount of gold bullion with no markup, you can get for the money. The weight of gold is returned in troy ounces, grams and pounds and ounces.
The amount of gold one can buy is affected by two items, the current SPOT price of gold, which is constantly changing, and the markup from the retailer. For gold bars with no numismatic value, a highly competitive markup is low, and on the order of 2% for retailers that deal in large volumes. 5% to 8% is not uncommon nor is it gouging from local jewelers and pawn shops. Above 12%, and one should consider looking elsewhere.
