The Metal Siding for Gambrel Wall computes the number and length of metal vertical siding panels for a wall under a gambrel roof based on the span, total height, and height and width of the loft and width of the panels.
INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:
- (S) Span of Wall (width of wall excluding overhang)
- (TH) Total Height (measured total height of wall to apex)
- (LH) Loft Height (measured from loft floor to ceiling)
- (LW) Loft Width (measured from knee bend to knee bend)
- (BH) Base Height (measured from bottom of wall to loft floor)
- (PW) Panel Width (coverage width of panel)
- (XT) Extra Length (safety margin added to each panel)
Metal Siding for Gambrel Wall (nP): The calculator returns the following:
- (n) Number of Panels
- (TL) Sum of Panel Lengths
- (A) Surface Area of Wall
- (nS) Number of Metal Screws Needed
- (P1) Cut angle for Pitch 1
- (P2) Cut angle for Pitch 2
- (PNLn) Panel Length for each panel
The Math / Science
The Loft Width must be less than the span.
`P1 = "atan"((AH)/((S-AW)"/"2))`
`P2 = "atan"( (TH-AH)/(AW"/"2) )`

The Siding Calculator has functions and data to help calculate the amount of materials needed for putting siding on a house or other building. The siding functions in the calculator are for siding that is installed horizontally (left to right). Vertical siding, such as metal ag panel requires slightly different math and for that reason are represented in different calculator functions.
