The Metal SPOT function calculates the spot price value for a designated weight/mass of a refined (pure) precious metals based on the current value of a precious metal in U.S. dollars

INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:

  • (MTL) Choice Precious Metal Type
  • (WM) Weight  or Mass of Metal

Metal SPOT (m-SPOT): The value is returned in U.S. dollars.  However, this can be automatically converted to compatible units via the pull-down menu.

NOTES

The weight can be in any of the vCalc system weight/mass units, but the default is in Troy ounces.  Other common weights for precious metals include pennyweight or grams. vCalc converts the weight into Troy Ounces and then fetches the current spot price for an ounce of gold. It then multiplies the weight of the pure gold content against the spot price and scrap discount percentage to give the gold's value. discount(scrap) = 1 - scrap
