The Oval Volume calculator computes the volume of an oval (elliptical) shaped items with vertical sides using the two center diameters and the thickness. 

INSTRUCTIONS:  Choose units and enter the following:

• (D₁) Diameter 1
• (D₂) Diameter 2
• (t) Thickness 

Oval Shaped Volume (V): The calculator returns the volume in cubic feet and the top surface area in square feet.  However these can be automatically converted to compatible units via the pull-down menu next to the resulting answer.

The Math / Science

An oval volume is a three dimension object with an oval or elliptical base and top and vertical sides (see diagram above).    The formula for an oval volume is:

    V = π •  (D₁ / 2)  •  (D₂  / 2)  • h

where:

• V = volume of oval shape
• D1 = Diameter 1
• D2 = Diameter 2
• t = thickness of shape (e.g., column or planter)
