The Price of Sand calculator computes the total price of a volume (V) of sand based on the cost per ton./attachments/6f9dc336-0a5d-11ea-baae-bc764e203090/Sand Truck.jpg

INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:

  • (V) Volume of Sand (e.g. 4 cubic yards)
  • (uP) Unit Price for a ton of sand

Total Cost of Sand (TCS): The calculator returns the total cost in U.S. dollars.  However, this can be automatically converted to other currency units via the pull-down menu.

Sand Calculators

  • Density of SandReturns the density of sand based on the condition of sand (wet/dry loose/packed).
  • Weight of SandEstimates the mass or weight of sand based on the volume of sand and the condition of sand (wet/dry loose/packed).
  • Price of SandComputes the total price of a volume of sand based on the cost per ton.
  • Cost of Delivered Bulk Sand: Computes the price of bulk sand by volume including delivery based on mileage.
  • Sand for Rectangular Sandbox: Computes the number of standard bags (0.5 ft³) , the total volume and dry weight of sand to fill a square or rectangular
  • Sand for Circular Sandbox: Computes the number of standard bags (0.5 ft³) and the total volume in cubic yards of sand to fill a circular sandbox based on the dimensions.
  • Bags of Play Sand: Computes how many bags of sand will be needed for the specified volume.
  • Cost of Play Sand: Computes the price of a volume of play sand.
  • Concrete Mix: Computes volume and weight of cement, sand, gravel and water requires to make a volume of concrete.
  • Sand for a Volleyball Court: Computes the volume of sand needed for a volleyball court based on the court's dimensions and the total price of the sand based on the cost per ton.

The Math / Science

Cost of sand is based the tons that you order.  However, you don't know the tons.  You've measured the volume that you need, the number of cubic yards.  The formula to compute the cost of sand is:

    TCS=VρuP

where:

  • TCS = Total cost of sand
  • ρ = density of sand (2200 lbs per cubic yard)
  • uP = Unit Price per ton
