The Siding for Gable Ends calculator computes the siding materials (horizontal panels or boards) for a wall under a gable roof end, based on the dimensions of the wall and the panels or boards.
INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:
- (H) Height
- (S) Span
- (P) Pitch
- (TO) Truss Overhang (default 12").
- (PW) Panel Width (coverage, not necessarily the measured width)
- (PL) Panel Length (coverage, not necessarily measured length)
Siding for Gable Ends (m): The calculator returns:
- (TA) Area: Total surface area of wall under gable in square feet.
- (nP) Number of Siding Panels: This is the number of panels needed.
- (nS) Number of Nails or Screws: Total number of screws or nails based on 16" spacing.
- (α) Cut Angle for Pitch: This is the angle in degrees for the ends under the gables.
The Math / Science
The calculator computes the total area, and computes the number of panels to cover the area. This form is of a wall below a gabled roof.
- Siding for a Rectangular Wall: Computes the siding materials for a rectangular wall (squared corners) for horizontal panels or boards based on the dimensions of the wall and the panels or boards.
- Siding for a Gable End Wall: Computes the siding materials (horizontal panels or boards) for a wall under a gable roof end, based on the dimensions of the wall and the panels or boards.
- Siding for a Gable End Wall with Large Door or Opening: Computes the siding materials (horizontal panels or boards) for a wall under a gable roof end with a large opening (e.g., garage door) based on the dimensions of the wall and the panels or boards.
- Horizontal Siding Gambrel Wall: Computes the number of horizontal rows of siding material, the total surface area and total board feet.
- Metal Sidings Gable Ends: Computes the number of vertical panels for a wall under a gable roofline. It also returns the total area of gable end wall, number of screws needed and the cut angle of the panels.
- Metal Siding for Gable End with Door: Computes the number of vertical panels for a wall with a large door (e.g., garage door) under a gable roofline. It also returns the total area of gable end wall, number of screws needed and the cut angle of the panels.
- Metal Siding for Wall: Computes the number of vertical panels and other metal siding materials for a rectangular wall based on the dimensions.
- Metal Siding Gambrel Wall: Computes the number and length of vertical metal panels for a wall under a gambrel roofline. It also includes the area of the wall and the number of metal panel screws needed for the vertical panels.
- Metal for Shed (Roof and Walls): Computes the number of vertical metal panels for the roof and walls of a three-sided shed (run-in).
- Corrugated Metal Paint or Coating Volume: This estimates the volume of paint or other coating (e.g., spray insulation) is needed for a corrugated surface.
The Siding Calculator has functions and data to help calculate the amount of materials needed for putting siding on a house or other building. The siding functions in the calculator are for siding that is installed horizontally (left to right). Vertical siding, such as metal ag panel requires slightly different math and for that reason are represented in different calculator functions.
