The Spikes per Pound calculator computes the number of common bright spikes based on the size and gross weight of  the spikes .

INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:

  • (G) Spike Guage (choose: 5/16" or 3/8")
  • (L) Spike Length (choose:  7", 8", 10", 12", 14")
  • (WWeight of Spikes (default: 10 lbs)

Number of Common Spikes (nS): The calculator returns the number spikes.

The Math / Science

The Spikes Per Pound equation computes the weight of the spikes as follows:

SW = nN * WPN

where:

  • SW = Weight of the Spikes
  • nN = Number of Spikes
  • WPN = Weight per Spike

Common Spike (Bright) Information

Common Spike Information
Spikes are often used for construction with heavy lumber (e.g., post and beam).  Spikes are also widely used with landscape beams including railroad ties.
