The Triplex Pump Output per Stroke calculator computes the number of barrels (bbl) per stroke produced by a triplex mud pump.

INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:

  • (D) Liner Diameter
  • (L) Stroke Length
  • (EFC) Percent Efficiency

Pump Output per Stroke (PO): The calculator returns the pump output per stroke in barrels (bbl).  However this can be automatically converted to other volume units (e.g. gallons or liters) via the pull-down menu.

The Math / Science

A triplex mud (or slush) pump has three horizontal plungers (cylinders) driven off of one crankshaft. Triplex mud pumps are often used for oil drilling.

The formula for triplex pump output per stroke is:

PO =0.000243 * D2 * L

where:

  • PO = Pump output per Stroke
  • D = Diameter of Liner
  • L = Stroke Length
