The Common Mean Density calculator provides the mean densities (ρ) of common substances including metals, woods, soils, stones and aggregates, farm products, elements, mining substances, oils, chemicals and construction materials.

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • (S)  Choose a substance from the pull-down menu (see list below)

Mean Density (ρ): The calculator returns the mean density in kilograms per cubic meter.  However, this can be automatically converted into other density units via the pull-down menu.

Use the Density

Use the density above in the mass as a function of density and volume calculator.  Click on the equation to compute the mass based on the density (ρ) and volume (V):

          M = ρ • V

where:

  • M is the total mass
  • ρ is the mean density
  • V is the volume
