The Surface Area of an Octagon Volume calculator computes the surface area of an octagonal shaped column or structure.  A regular octagon/attachments/73851725-4ad1-11e7-9770-bc764e2038f2/OctagonVolume.png          Regular Octagon is an eight sided polygon where all of the sides are the same length (s), with a height (h), one can create a octagon shaped object (e.g. column or planter)

INSTRUCTIONS:  Choose the length units you wish (e.g. feet or meters) and enter the following:

  • (s) Length of One Side of Octagon
  • (h) Height of Object

Surface Area (SA): The calculator returns the surface area in square meters.  However, this can be automatically converted to other area units (e.g. square inches) via the pull-down menu. 

The Math / Science

 A regular octagon is an eight sided polygon where all of the lengths of the sides and the interior angles are the same.  Octagon shapes are used in many application and even in nature.  Octagon shapes provide conveniences of straight sides with the general appearance of a more circular polygon.

The formula for the surface area of an octagon column is:

     SA=4(1+2)s2+8hs

where:

  • SA - Surface area of Octagon Column
  • s - side length
  • h - height of the column
