The Pump Cylinder Stroke Length calculator computes the stroke length (L) required in a cylinder to displace a volume (V) in a cylinder of a specified diameters (D).

INSTRUCTIONS:  Choose units and enter the following:/attachments/e86dfe97-100f-11e8-abb7-bc764e2038f2/PumpCylinder.png

  • (V) This is the volume displacement of one stroke of the pump.
  • (D)  This is the diameter of the cylinder of the pump

Stroke Length (L):  The calculator returns the length in inches.  However this can be automatically converted to compatible units via the pull-down menu.

The Math / Science

The formula for the displacement volume of a cylinder in a pump is:

             V = π•(D/2)²•L

where:

This calculator uses the above formula solved for the cylinder stroke length:

              L = V/( π•(D/2)² )
