`RSD = sigma / barx`
`(sigma)"Standard Deviation"`
`(barx)"Mean of the Sample"`

The Relative Standard Deviation (RSD) for a sample data set calculator computes the relative standard deviation based on the standard deviation and the mean of the sample.

INSTRUCTIONS: Enter the following:

  • (σ) Standard Deviation
  • (`barx`) Sample Mean

Relative Standard Deviation (RSD): The calculator returns the relative standard deviation

The Math / Science

The RSD serves as a gage for how large is the variance as compared to the size of the sample set.  The formula for the relative standard deviation is:

         `RSD = σ/barx`

where:

  • RSD = Relative Standard Deviation
  • σ = Standard Deviation
  • `barx` = Mean of Sample
