The Density within Range utility identifies substances from the vCalc mean density library that are with the range of an entered density.

INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:

  • (mD) Mean Density
  • (V) Percent Variance from the Mean Density

Densities (D): The function returns a list of substances from the library that are ±V% within the entered Mean Density.

The Math / Science

This Densities within Range equation provides a list of items that have densities that fall within the upper and lower variance limits of a given density.

For example, if the given density is 400 kg/m3 and the specified %variance is 20%, all items that have densities between 320 kg/m3 and 480 kg/3 will be returned along with their mean densities.

vCalc Density Database Info:

  • 624 materials listed
  • Most Dense Material: Osmium with density of (22590.0 ± 1.8E-12) kg/m³
  • Least Dense Material: Ammonia gas with density of (0.77000000000000002 ± 5.6E-17) kg/m³.
