Written Words to Speech Length

The Written Words to Speech Length converter accepts the number of words in a speech or presentation and converters it to the amount of time it should take to present based on your average WPM and nervousness levels.

• (NOW) Number of Words.
• (WPM) Your Average Words per Minute
• (NL) Nervousness Level

Amount of Time (SL): The converter returns how long it will take to speak the given amount of words in minutes.  However, this can be automatically converted to compatible units via the the pull-down menu.

The Math

The formula to convert from written words to the amount of time it will take to speak those words is:

'SL = NOW * WPM * NL'

where:

• SL = Amount of Time
• WPM = Words per Minute
• NOW = Number of Words
• NL = Nervousness Level

Average words per minute are between 100 and 130 WPM, you can determine your own WPM by reading a selection of text and divide the total number of words by the time it took you to read the words. 

The conversion from written words to speech length is a multiple-step calculation. The first step is to convert from words per minute to words per second. The total number of words is then divided by the words per second. The total number of seconds is then converted to minutes and returned.
