Sump Pump
A sump pump is a device used to remove accumulated water from a sump pit, typically found in basements or crawl spaces. The pump helps prevent flooding and water damage by directing water away from the home and into a drainage system, storm sewer, or dry well.
How Sump Pumps Work:
Water Collection: Water collects in the sump pit through natural groundwater seepage or a drainage system.
- Activation: When the water reaches a certain level, a float switch or pressure sensor activates the pump.
- Pumping Water Out: The pump pushes water through a discharge pipe, redirecting it away from the foundation.
- Shutoff: Once the water level drops, the pump turns off automatically.
Types of Sump Pumps:
- Submersible Pump (shown): Sits inside the sump pit, quieter and better for continuous use.
- Pedestal Pump: Sits above the pit, easier to maintain but louder.
- Battery Backup Pump: Works during power outages, useful in areas prone to heavy storms.
