Platinum Calculator

The Platinum Calculator has equations, constants and online data useful for jewelers, pawn shops and other merchants or buyers of platinum.

Functions:

• Platinum Buy Price: Computes the Jeweler's Buy Price for platinum based on the current value of platinum, the percent purity, a scrap processing fee, and the jeweler's profit margin.
• How Much Platinum I Can Buy: Computes the weight of platinum one can buy based on the amount of money one has, the current price of platinum and a reasonable retailer markup.

Data Items:

• Platinum SPOT ($/Oz): Current market SPOT price for platinum in dollars per troy ounce.
• Platinum SPOT ($/g): Current market SPOT price for platinum in dollars per gram.

The Platinum Calculator is useful for those who buy scrap metal or those who wish to have an estimate of the value of their scrap metal.

Platinum Value (Scrap Buy Price)

The Platinum Value (Jeweler's Buy Price) equation lets you:

1. enter the weight of your scrap palladium on one of many units, 
2. It then asks for the purity (e.g. % pure silver).  
3. It then asks for a refiners fee (e.g. 5%), and
4. it asks for the fee (profit) of the buyer.

It then returns the buy price of the platinum accounting for the above factors and the current platinum spot price.

SPOT Prices

This is a simple equation where you choose a precious metal from the list, enter the weight of the refined metal you have and it provides a current value based on the current SPOT price.  The default amount is one Troy ounces so the spot price of the metals is provided by default.

How Much Platinum Can I Buy? This function lets you enter the amount of money you want to invest in platinum and returns the weight of platinum that money can buy based on the the current spot price of platinum.  This provides the upper limit since it does not include markups for minting or coin numismatic value.

5. Platinum SPOT ($/g): Platinum SPOT price in dollars per gram.
6. Platinum SPOT ($/Oz): Platinum SPOT price in dollars per troy ounce.
7. Silver SPOT ($/g): Silver SPOT price in dollars per gram.
8. Silver Spot ($/Oz): Silver SPOT price in dollars per troy ounce.
