The Inherent Viscosity calculator computes the inherent viscosity based on the relative viscosity and the mass concentration.
INSTRUCTIONS: Enter the following:
Inherent Viscosity (ηinh): The calculator returns the inherent viscosity.
The formula for the Inherent Viscosity is:
ηinh = ln(ηrel) / c
where:
The Inherent Viscosity equation is the ratio of the natural logarithm of the relative viscosity to mass concentration. Inherent Viscosity is a viscometric method for measuring molecular size. Inherent Viscosity can be measured by comparing the flow time of a polymer solution flowing through a narrow capillary to the flow time of a pure solvent through the same capillary.
The relative viscosity if the ration of the viscosity of a solution (η) to the viscosity of the solvent (ηs) in that solution. The formula for Relative Viscosity is:
ηR = η / ηs
