The formula for the Inherent Viscosity is:

 ηinh = ln(ηrel) / c

The Inherent Viscosity equation is the ratio of the natural logarithm of the relative viscosity to mass concentration.  Inherent Viscosity is a viscometric method for measuring molecular size.  Inherent Viscosity can be measured by comparing the flow time of a polymer solution flowing through a narrow capillary to the flow time of a pure solvent through the same capillary.

The relative viscosity if the ration of the viscosity of a solution (η) to the viscosity of the solvent (ηs) in that solution.  The formula for Relative Viscosity is:

   ηR = η / ηs
