The Beaufort scale /ˈboʊfərt/ is an empirical measure that relates wind speed to observed conditions at sea or on land. Its full name is the Beaufort wind force scale, although it is a measure of wind speed and not of force in the scientific sense.

Description

Wind force affects a wide variety of conditions.  This is most acute at Sea where the wind also affect the surface of the sea.  The Beaufort Scale provides an indication of the conditions related to wind speed within a range.

Instructions

  1. Choose a Beaufort Scale force (0-12)
  2. Choose an output choice.  These included:
    • Bottom Wind speed - Low range of wind speed in force category
    • Top Wind Speed - High range of wind speed in force category
    • Description
    • Condition at Sea

vCalc provides automatic unit conversions for the wind speeds. Select a different unit in the answer pull-down list.
