The Friction Force calculator computes force of friction based on a friction coefficient and velocity of the object .

INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:

  • (bFriction Coefficient
  • (v Velocity

Friction Force (F): The force is returned in Newtons (N).  However, these can be automatically converted to compatible units via the pull-down menu.

The Math / Science

The Friction Force is found using  the following formula:

F=-bv

where:

  • F = Friction Force
  • b = frictional drag force
  • v = velocity
