This Discounted Price calculator computes the sale price when TWO discounts are applied.  It answers the question, "How much will I have to pay for this item that is on sale if I get an additional discount at checkout?

INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:

  • (pBd) Price Before Discount is applied
  • (D1) First discount percentage (for example, if discount is 10% enter 10)
  • (D2) Additional discount percentage (Discount_2)
  • (SSTR) State Sales Tax Rate (default 0%)

Discounted Price (dP): The calculator returns the fully-discounted pre-tax price and the final (taxed) price in US dollars.  However, these can be automatically converted to compatible units via the pull-down menu.

The Math / Science

The formula for the Discounted Price is:

dP = pBd - (pBd* D1) - [pBd - (pBd* D1)] * D2

This Discounted Price equation calculates the sale price when TWO discounts are applied.  It answers the question, "How much will I have to pay for this item that is on sale if I get an additional discount at checkout?".

For example: A shirt originally costs $100 but is on sale for 20% off with an additional 10% off at checkout.  Your final cost for the shirt (excluding tax) is $72.
