This equation is used to compute the value of shareholders equity.

In the Accounting equation , Shareholders Equity is equals to the company's total Assets minus its total Liabilities.  Shareholders' equity  is generally the amount by which a company is financed through common and preferred shares. It is also computed by its share capital plus retained earnings minus treasury shares.
