Accounting is the measurement, processing and communication of financial information about companies. Accounting measures the results of a businesses financial activity and conveys this information to a variety of users including investors, creditors, management, and regulators.

The recording of financial transactions, and the summarizing of the financials are often presented in financial reports known as bookkeeping. Double-entry bookkeeping is the most common system of financial record keeping.
