The Complementary Angle calculator computes complementary angle to an input angle.

INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:

  • (αInput Angle

Complementary Angle (β): The results are returns in units of radians, decimal degrees and degrees-minutes-seconds.  However, these can be automatically converted to compatible units via the pull-down menu.

The Math / Science

In geometry, a complementary angle is one of a pair of angles whose measures add up to 90 degrees. If two angles are complementary, they can be adjacent (forming a right angle) or non-adjacent. For example, if one angle measures 30 degrees, its complementary angle would measure 60 degrees, since 30+ 60∘ = 90.

The formula for supplementary angle is:

β = π/2 - α

where:

  • β = Complementary Angle
  • α = Input Angle
