The Wind Effects at Qualcomm Stadium calculator computes the plus or minus yards to expect due to the wind at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, California.  The wind speed and direction, and whether the quarterbacks are throwing into the wind or with the wind at their back, will effect how far the football can be passed.  This calculator computes how much further (positive yards) or shorter (negative yards) can be expected on the longest throws down the field.  /attachments/aef712fe-54c6-11e6-9770-bc764e2038f2/QualcommStadium_drawing.png  Qualcomm Stadium Orientation

The Football's Trajectory

The deepest passes are thrown down field at the optimum angle (45 degrees) and at the maximum velocity.   Pro football quarterbacks can throw a football between 45 and 50 miles per hour.  This calculator uses these two reasonable assumptions, and the  game-day wind speed and direction to compute the positive and negative effect in yardage.

Instructions

  1. Select the current goal: A or B (see diagram of Qualcomm Stadium)
  2. Enter the wind speed
  3. Enter the wind direction

vCalc will then return the net wind effect on the passing length.
