Peak Voltage

This equation computes the Peak AC voltage for a current of three selectable waveforms.

Inputs are:

  • waveform -- choice of AC waveform (sinusoidal waveform, triangular waveform, or square waveform)
  • VRMS -- RMS Voltage

Notes

As an example, the residential voltage in the US is 120 Volts (in many countries it is 220 or 230 Volts).  Since that residential voltage in the US can be depended on to be supplied as a sinusoidal waveform and that 120 Volts is the RMS Voltage, the peak voltage is:

`V_"peak" = sqrt(2) * V_"RMS" =  sqrt(2) * 120 V  (approximately 170 volts)
