The Loudness Factor equation computes the Unison loudness/sustainment factor, which is an acoustic measurement that should decrease smoothly as one goes up the piano scale.

INPUTS

The inputs are as follows:

  • P - pitch (Hertz)
  • - speaking length (inches)
  • d - core wire diameter (mils aka (11000)s(11000)s of inches)
  • A - wrap wire material
  • D - total wire diameter (mils), and a - which is a unit-less coefficient.

NOTES

See Chapter 5 of the The Calculating Technician by David Roberts for additional information.
