This equation computes the radar range rms measurement error

INPUTS

  • B - waveform bandwidth
  • S/N - signal to noise ratio
  • σRF - the range fixed error
  • σRB - the range bias error

DERIVATION

The rms measurement error can be characterized:

σR=(σ2RN+σ2RF+σ2RB)12, where

     σRN = S/N-dependent random range measurement errors

     σRF =  range fixed error, the root sum square of the radar fixed random range error and the random range error from propagation

     σRB  = the range bias error, which is the root sum square of the radar range bias error and the range bias error from propagation

And σRN =  ΔR2(SN)=c2B2(SN), where B is the waveform bandwidth and c is the speed of light

then

σR=(c28B2SN+σ2RF+σ2RB)12
