The Max Static Friction Force calculator computes the maximum force boundary between the Normal force and the friction force.
INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:
- (μs) Static force coefficient
- (FN) Normal Force
Max Static Friction Force (Fs max):The calculator return the max static friction force in newtons. However, this can be automatically converted to other force units via the pull-down menu.
The Math / Science
Static friction occurs between surfaces that are not slipping over each other. Slipping surfaces experience kinetic friction.
The formula for max static friction is:
Fs max = μs⋅ FN
where:
- Fs max = max static friction
- μs = Static Force Coefficient
- FN = Normal Force
