Average velocity (using initial velocity, acceleration, time)

`V_(avg) = v_0 + 1/2* a * t `
`(v_0)"Initial Velocity"`
`(a)"Acceleration"`
`(t)"time"`

The Average Velocity based on Acceleration and Time calculator computes the velocity achieved based on a constant acceleration over time.

INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:

  • (V0) This is the initial velocity
  • (a) This is the constant acceleration
  • (t) This is the duration of the acceleration

Average Velocity (V): The calculator returns the velocity in meters per second.  However this can be automatically converted to compatible units via the pull-down menu.

The Math / Science

The formula for the Average Velocity based on Acceleration and Time is:

   V = Vi + ½•a•t

where:

  • V is the average velocity
  • Vi is the initial velocity
  • a is the constant acceleration
  • t is the duration of the acceleration
