The Escape Velocity Using Density calculator computes the escape velocity from a body (v) based on the distance from the center of mass (R) and the density of the body (ρ).
INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:
- (R) This is the distance to the center of mass
- (ρ) This is the density of the body
Escape Velocity (v): The calculator returns the velocity in meters per second. However this can be automatically converted to compatible units via the pull-down menu.
The Math / Science
The formula for the Escape Velocity using Density is:
v=√8πGρ3R
where:
- v is the escape velocity based on density and distance
- R is the distance to the center of mass
- ρ is the density of the body
- G is the Universal Gravitational Constant is 6.67384E-11 m³/kg•sec².
