Difference in magnitudes from Flux Ratio

`Dm = 2.5 log_{10}(r)`
`(r)"flux ratio"`
Share Result

The Difference in Magnitudes from Flux Ratio calculator computes the difference in magnitude (Dm) based on the Flux Ratio (r).  Two objects have differing intensities as measured by an observer. The ratio of the measured intensities (or "fluxes") is given as "r". These two objects have different astronomical "magnitudes". The difference in their magnitudes is given by this formula.

INSTRUCTIONS: Enter the following:

  • (r) Ratio of Measured Intensities

Difference in Magnitude (Dm): The calculator returns the difference in magnitude.
