The Math / Science
Precious metals can be purchased as an investment. The price fluctuates constantly. This is called the spot price, the price of the bullion at a given moment. To compute the amount (weight) of a metal you can buy, the formula is:
WT = INV/(DPO + MKU)
where:
- WT = weight of precious metals
- INV = Dollars invested
- DPO = Dollars per Ounce (Troy Ounce)
- MKU = Retailers Percent Markup
