The Signum Function returns the signum value for any real number.

INSTRUCTIONS: Enter the following:

  • (r) Real number

Signum Function(sf):  The calculator returns either a -1, 0 or 1. 

The Math / Science

The Signum Function Calculator, also known as the sign function, returns the signum function of the input real number.  

The output is zero if the input is zero.  The output is 1.0 if the argument is greater than 0.0.  And the output is -1.0 if the argument is less than 0.0.  If the input is positive zero or negative zero, then the result is the same as the argument.
