Floor Area by Dimensions

The Floor Area by Dimension calculator computes the floor area of a rectangular room based on the length and width of the room.

INSTRUCTIONS:  Choose units and enter the following:

• (L) Length of Room
• (W) Width of Room

Total Floor Area (A):  The calculator returns the total area in square feet and square meters.   However, this can be automatically converted compatible units via the pull-down menu.

The formula for the area of a rectangular room is:

A = L ⋅ W

where:

• A = Floor Area of Room
• L = Length of Room
• W = Width of Room

Most rooms are  simple rectangles with a length and a width.  The only common departure are rooms with bump-outs.  Some bump-outs are angular and taper down from an opening.  Some bump-outs have squared corners.  To compute the square feet of these floors are simple geometry based on the measurements of the main floor and the bump-out dimensions.
