tanker - volume (conic cylinder)

The Conic Cylinder Tank Volume calculator computes the volume of a cylindrical tank with tapered (cone frustum) ends.  Geometrically, this is a cylinder of any length (l) with a conic frustum on both ends.     Conic Cylinder There are three radii and three lengths. See diagram.

INSTRUCTION: Choose units and enter the following:

•  (d₁) Diameter of Central Tank
•  (l₁) Length of Central Tanks
•  (l₃) Length of forward cone
•  (d₃) End Diameter of forward cone
•  (l₂) Length of rear cone
•  (d₂) End Diameter of rear cone

Volume of a Conic Cylinder Tanker (V):  The calculator returns the volume in gallons.  However, this can be automatically converted to other volume units (e.g. liters) via the pull-down menu. Note: d₂ and d₃ are often the same., and so are l₂ and l₃.

The Math

 Geometrically, this is a central cylinder, with two frustums of a cones.   The frustum of a cone is a section of a cone with two parallel planes defining the top and bottom of the section.
