The Hourly Pay Rate calculator computes the dollars per hour associated with an annual salary.

INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:

  • (AS) Annual Salary
  • (ALH) Labor Hours in a Year (default is 2080 hours)

Hourly Pay Rate (HR):  The calculator returns the hourly rate in U.S. dollars.  However, this can be automatically converted to compatible units via the pull-down menu.  The calculator also returns:

  • (HR) Hourly Pay Rate
  • (WR) Weekly Pay Rate
  • (BWR) Bi-weekly Pay Rate (when paid every two weeks)
  • (MR) Monthly Pay Rate
  • (SMR) Semi-Monthly Pay Rate (when paid twice per month)

The Math / Science

This equation will calculate an hourly wage based on the provided gross annual salary.  This is based on a total work hours per year (an FTE) being 2080, which is fifty-two 40 hour weeks.

Pay, Salary, Wages Calculators

  • Annual Salary to Hourly Wage: Enter annual salary and see hourly wage, weekly pay, bi-weekly pay, semi-monthly pay, monthly pay.
  • Hourly Pay to Salary: Enter an hourly rate and see annual salary, weekly pay, bi-weekly pay, semi-monthly pay, monthly pay

The above calculators are based on 2080 labor hours per years.  This is derived from 40 hours per week and 52 weeks per year.  Weekly time is 40 hours. Bi-weekly time is for two weeks (80 hours).   Monthly is a year (2080 hours) divided by 12.  Semi-monthly is  a year (2080 hours) divided by 26 to compute pay twice per month (e.g., 1st and 15th).
