The Frequency calculator computes the frequency based on the amount of time (period) of one cycle.

INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:

  • (T) This is the period

Frequency (f): The calculator returns the frequency in hertz.  However this can be automatically converted to compatible units via the pull-down menu.

The Math / Science

The frequency is equal to the inverse of the time it takes to complete one cycle. If it takes 0.01 seconds to complete one cycle, the frequency of the sine wave is 100hz.  The formula for frequency is

         f = 1 / T

where

  • f = frequency
  • T = amount of time (period) for one cycle
