The Acceleration Due to Gravity at an Altitude calculator estimates the acceleration due to gravity on Earth at a specific altitude above sea level.

INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:

  • (h) Altitude above sea level

Acceleration Due to Gravity (gh):  The calculator returns the acceleration in meters per second squared.   However, this can be automatically converted to compatible units via the pull-down menu.

The Math / Science

The Acceleration due to Gravity by Altitude calculator estimates the approximate acceleration due to gravity on the surface of the Earth based on the altitude.

The equation for the acceleration due to gravity based on altitude is:

        galt=g(rere+h)2
