The mass fraction equation computes the ratio of mass substance A out of a total mixture of masses of two or more substances^[2]. Hypothetically, if a mixture contained two substances A and substance B, mass fraction of substance A will be a ratio of the mass of substance A out of the total combination of masses of substance A and B. 

Description

The mass fraction is calculated by 

wa=ma/ma+mb ^[2]

where:

• m_a is the mass of substance A in units of mass
• m_b is the mass of substance B in units of mass
• w_a is the mass fraction of substance A
