What is a Quonset Hut

A Quonset hut is a type of lightweight, prefabricated structure made of corrugated galvanized steel or iron. The design is semi-cylindrical, with the structure resembling half of a cylinder. The name "Quonset hut" comes from the location where the first such huts were produced during World War II, which was the Quonset Point Naval Air Station in Rhode Island, USA.

Quonset huts were originally designed for military use, serving various purposes such as barracks, storage facilities, and workshops. Their simple and efficient design made them easy to transport, assemble, and disassemble. After the war, surplus Quonset huts found civilian applications, and they became popular for use as storage buildings, workshops, and even as homes.

These structures have a distinctive appearance due to their curved shape and are known for their durability and versatility.
