The Relative Temperature from Relative Size and Luminosity calculator returns the relative temperature based on the relative size and relative luminosity.

INSTRUCTIONS: Enter the following:

  • (L)  This is the relative luminosity.
  • (R)  This is the relative size (radius).

Relative Stellar Temperature: The calculator returns the relative temperature.

The Math / Science

A stars temperature can be determined if you know the relative size and luminosity compared to the Sun. Suppose a star is twice the size of the sun with 10 times the luminosity? Use: R=2 and L=10 to find:

T=(10/2^2)^(0.25)
