The Torque at an angle Calculator computes the torque 'tau' using the Force(F), the length of the lever arm (r) and the angle('theta') from the pivot point.

INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:

  • (F) Force
  • (r) length of the lever arm
  • (θ) Angle from the pivot point

Torque('tau'): The calculator returns the torque ('tau') in newton-meters. However, this can be automatically converted to other units via the pull-down menu.

The Math / Science

Torque is described as being a force applied to an object at a point that is away from the pivot point of an object.
