The Trapezoid Volume (Rectangular) Weight or Mass calculator computes the mass or weight of trapezoid volume shape based on the dimensions and density of material:

INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:

  • (a) Width of Top
  • (b) Length of Top
  • (A) Width of Bottom
  • (B) Length of Bottom
  • (h) Height between Top and Bottom
  • (mD) Mean Density of Material

Trapezoid Volume Weight or Mass (M): The calculator returns the mass / weight in grams.  However, this can be automatically converted to compatible units via the pull-down menu.

The Math / Science

A rectangular trapezoid volume has regular trapezoids on all four sides with the two sets of identical trapezoids on opposite sides.  The bottom and top rectangles are centered, form parallel planes and separated by the height.

Trapezoidal Volume Definition

A Trapezoidal Volume or Trapezoid Pyramid is a 3D geometric shape with four trapezoid faces and a rectangular base and top.  It is a commonly seen shape in many applications in construction and manufacturing.  Examples include prisms, troughs, containers and pyramids.

                 Mean Density Lookup Function

Mean density is scientifically volume divided by mass.  There are  various unit for density adopted by cultures and industries. Common units for density included the following:

  • kilograms per cubic meter (kg/m3)
  • grams per cubic centimeter (g/cm3)
  • grams per liter (g/L)
  • pounds per cubic feet (lb/ft3)
  • ounces per cubic inch (oz/in3)
  • pounds per barrel (lb/bbl)
  • pounds per bushel (lb/bu)

If you want to identify a material by its density, use the Density Within Range tool.
